You can now purchase paperback editions of the commentaries in the UK (Amazon.co.uk) and in Europe (Amazon.fr, Amazon.de, Amazon.es, Amazon.it). The books are printed and mailed locally–so there is no need for international shipping. New titles will be available on these sites at the same time that they appear on Amazon.com in the US.

The pricing of the books in pounds and euros fluctuates automatically with the exchange rate of the US dollar. If the pricing of the books seems exceedingly high to you, please let me know.

The Tragedy of Hector: Iliad 6 and 22 coming this summer

I am creating a single-page formatted commentary for Iliad 6 and 22 (10 lines per page, vocabulary, notes, grammar boxes) and adding the entire Greek-only text at the end of the edition as well (for instructors who want students to review in class without the assistance of notes). A draft will appear online by June.

I have been working on a variety of projects recently, in some cases assisting others on commentaries and in other cases beginning work on prose authors that I will pick up again in late 2012 or 2013. Despite the lack of new titles on this website, it has been an extremely productive year so far.

As always, I am very grateful for the encouragement, advice, and corrections that many of you have sent through emails.

Odyssey 6-8 updated: new Greek text font (Mar 2012)

I have replaced the SPIonic font in the Greek text of Odyssey 6-8 with GFS Porson (Unicode) and made the text slightly larger in response to readers’ requests.

I have also reduced the .pdf file size significantly from 51 mb to 6 mb. The revised paperback edition of Odyssey 6-8 is now available.

Formatting for 2nd edition of Herodotus’ Histories 1 completed (Feb. 11)

I have completed the reformatting of Herodotus’ Histories I. Each OCT page has been divided over two facing pages (verso and recto) in a 6×9 format with corresponding vocabulary and grammar notes below the Greek text on the same page. These are the same vocabulary and notes found in the 1st edition.

This task took much longer than I expected, so my apologies for the delays. I have also added a RUNNING VOCABULARY list at the beginning of the 2nd edition which will be revised once more before the 2nd edition is available in print in April.

Please let me know as you find errors in the text. I would like to make as many changes as possible before the book appears in print.

Plato’s Republic Revision in Paperback and online (Feb. 11)

A revised edition of Plato’s Republic Book 1 will be available on Amazon.com within the next two days and is now available online. The revision includes spelling corrections, modifications to diacritical marks, insertion of omitted dictionary entries, and a few other changes. The formatting and grammatical notes remain the same.

Beta Crito revised with grammar reference boxes — Nov. 13th

The latest beta edition of the Crito commentary (revised Nov. 13) is now available at the link at the top of this page.

This revision includes a number of grammar reference boxes throughout the commentary. I will be adding more boxes and completing the introduction and glossary soon. Expect another update before December 1st.

Beta edition of Plato’s Crito now available

An unfinished beta edition of Plato’s Crito is now available for download.

This edition includes vocabulary and grammar notes on the same page as the Greek text. I have added the Greek text and complementary vocabulary for the entire dialogue, but the grammar notes cover only the first half of the commentary. The remaining grammar notes, reference boxes, introductory notes, and glossary will be added in a future revision.

There will be regular revisions uploaded to this website until the commentary is completed.

Revised beta edition of Lysias now available (October 15)

The latest revision to Lysias I includes six changes to the grammar notes and one change to the Greek text (the number #7 has been moved to its proper place at the beginning of the sentence).

One of the unexpected joys of making these commentaries has been the comments and criticisms of readers. Creating these commentaries is often a lonely endeavor, and the advice of readers continues to have a great influence on how I envision the outcome of new and revised editions of these books. Although my schedule makes it difficult for me to maintain continuous email exchanges, I take every comment very seriously.

As I consider a new phase in the commentaries, I need more feedback from you the readers. Since I believe that these commentaries should complement and not replace advanced level commentaries, I deliberately keep my introductions short and bibliographies shorter. What, however, can I do to make the experience of reading better for you? Should I include more grammar reference boxes? Are core vocabulary lists too sparse? Should appendices be expanded? Are the color schemes in flashcards appropriate for smartphones and tablets?

I welcome any and all comments. Whether you contact me via email or send a comment through this website below, I promise to keep all correspondence private (I don’t publish readers’ comments on this site.).
