1. 2nd edition of Ritchie’s Fabulae Faciles Commentary (2nd ed., pdf 12.9 mb, 04Jan25)

This second edition is written in a single-page format with a larger size, 7 x 10 in. (17.78 x 25.4 cm). The larger size allows for larger, more readable font sizes, more plentiful grammatical notes, and, most importantly, the ability the lay the book open flat on a desk.

Features of the 2nd edition:

This edition has been rewritten and reformatted from the ground up.

The grammatical notes have been rewritten and expanded.

The core vocab list has been expanded to include all words occurring 7 or more times (only 15 or more times in the 1st edition). As a result, there are fewer corresponding dictionary entries on each page, and readers can find the entry that they need more easily.

Dictionary entries for core words are found (1) in the running list in the introduction, (2) in an alphabetized list in the glossary, and now (3) on the page where the word first occurs. This gives readers access to dictionary entries for the most recent core words, in case they have not yet fully reviewed and mastered them.

The number for each of the 100 stories corresponds exactly to the page number in the commentary for easy reference: the story labeled #38 is on page 38, and the story labeled #67 is on page 67. This allows teachers to communicate instructions clearly without any confusion.

The translation sheets for all 100 stories allow teachers to preserve the text formatting between the commentary, handouts, and presentations more easily. Teachers can embellish the .docx files with images and exercises to meet their own instructional needs.

Each 8.5 x 11 in. (21.59 x 27.94 cm) document includes the Latin text formatted as it appears in the commentary with lined spaces below. Readers can write out translations or notes, and teachers are encouraged to adapt the docx files for their own handouts and presentations.
